  • Onema, a founding member of the Pulvés group

The Pulvés GIP (group in the public interest) was recently launched to organise the system for periodic checks on sprayers for phytosanitary products, which have become mandatory since 1 January. Onema is a founding member with the Agriculture and Ecology ministries, Cemagref and the permanent assembly of the Chamber of agriculture. The GIP will process requests for certification by sprayer-inspection organisations and inspector-training centres.

Limiting the impact of phytosanitary products on water resources

The Ecophyto 2018 plan targets a 50% reduction in the use of pesticides over the next ten years and the gradual removal from the market of the most dangerous products. Onema has been put in charge of a part of the funding for the plan.

In view of reducing pesticide use and limiting the impacts, Onema personnel have already reinforced the inspection of non-treated zones along rivers, in conjunction with the regional plant-protection services. In addition, a national database on the sale of phytosanitary products is being set up by Onema. It is designed to interface with the new internet site opened by the Ecology ministry to assist distributors in preparing the declarations for diffuse-pollution fees and in transmitting to the Water agencies the annual summary of sales made in 2008.
Finally, Onema has joined as an associate member a new scientific group whose goal is to develop intensive crop-production systems offering high economic and environmental performance. To date, the members include Inra, five agricultural technical institutes for intensive crops and the permanent assembly of the Chamber of agriculture.
