Monitoring of PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl) contamination of sediment and fish continues in the framework of the national PCB action plan.For the second straight year, fish and sediment samples were collected in May and June 2009 to determine PCB levels. Read more

Medical residues in water - Improve knowledge and organise monitoring
Monitoring of medical residues in aquatic environments and evaluation of the risks for the environment and human health were the topics of the seminar organised by Onema on 25 and 26 May in Paris. Some 80 health and environmental experts shared their knowledge.The goal was to launch a coordinated action programme to improve our knowledge and contribute to preparing the future national plan for medical residues in water. plan. Closer contacts between environmental police - An experiment in 13 French departments
To optimise the effectiveness of environmental police, the State is creating closer ties between the policing activities of Onema, ONCFS (national agency for hunting and wildlife) and DDEA (departmental public-works and agriculture agencies). This policy, a part of the general revision of public policies, does not affect the institutional standing of each agency.

Interview with Luc Abbadie, president of the scientific council on water and aquatic environments
Director of the Biogeochemistry and ecology of continental systems lab (CNRS/ENS/INRA) at the École normale supérieure in Paris.
The scientific council comprises 24 members from different horizons. Virtually all disciplines are represented and though public research has a larger number of members, the council also includes experts from various professional segments of the water sector.
