EDITORIAL - NEWSLETTER # 11 - WINTER 2011-2012

The 6th World water forum in Marseille will be "a time for solutions"

France will welcome the World water forum for the first time. This 6th forum will be the result of intense preparations in which we have been active participants.
For the past twelve months, 100 international groups around the world have been working on the main targets for each of the priority topics corresponding to the major water issues. To meet each target in the years to come, concrete solutions have been identified. An additional 50 specific targets have been worked on in the major regions of the world. In all, over 600 organisations have been involved. To that number must be added all the individuals who responded to the call for solutions launched by the international committee of the forum. A total of 1 200 proposals had been received by the platform of solutions by mid February. The most innovative will be presented at the Solutions village during the forum.
The forum is also a political event addressing all levels of public policy, including the governmental, parliamentarian, regional and local. All these levels will produce declarations and have been working closely with the thematic and regional groups.
The forum will also comprise panels of high-level stakeholders from around the world, round tables bringing together national ministers and "trialogues" between the three political levels to discuss solutions for the major water challenges facing the world. The goal is not only to identify solutions, but then to go beyond and obtain long-term commitments. For the first time, citizens and civil society will be full-fledged participants in the forum. They have contributed during the preparations and will be involved in many of the events during the week.
This letter presents some of the ways Onema is involved in the forum. We hope to see you soon in Marseille and will be pleased to welcome you at the French pavilion that we will be sharing with our partners from the French water sector.
