“Water Science meets Policy” Event

Common Implementation Strategy (CIS) of the Water Framework Directive (WFD)
30th September 2010 – Brussels






       Outcome about the 1st Water Science meets Policy event organised by the DG Research of the European Commission and the French National Agency for Water and Aquatic Environments (ONEMA) to be held on 30th September in Brussels.

DG Research and ONEMA are responsible for leading the Science-Policy Interface (CIS-SPI) activity for the 2010-2012 period in the line of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) Common Implementation Strategy (CIS).

The CIS-SPI activity aims to support technical milestones of the European water policies and river basin management planning process by linking the research needs of end users with scientific research outputs and promoting partnership relations between researchers and policy makers as included in the CIS-SPI mandate :

- Task One : inventory research and implementation needs from CIS groups ;
- Task Two : identify available research relevant to CIS groups and identify research gaps ;
- Task Three : improve dissemination and usability of research outputs.

In this framework, DG Research and ONEMA organized an operational and interactive event. The objective was to identify research needs and to improve the research results dissemination for the forthcoming by connecting scientists and WFD end-users. The meeting gathered about 150 participants including researchers, WFD implementers and policy-makers.
